Lisa Selman-Holman, BMSC Chair


Lisa is a veteran of home care with over 30 years spent in home health and hospice, both as an RN and as an attorney practicing exclusively in home care. She is the owner of Selman-Holman & Associates, LLC, a full-service home care and hospice consulting firm; CoDR (Coding Done Right), an outsourcing company for home care and hospice coding and OASIS review; and Code Pro U, the premier comprehensive online education for ICD-10-CM and OASIS.

She is the Chair of the Board of Medical Specialty Coding and Compliance. She is the technical editor of the DecisionHealth Complete Home Health ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Coding Manual. She has provided education to home health and hospice professionals since 1994. She is known for her comprehensive knowledge of home health and hospice regulations and her ability to communicate with insight and humor.

Arlynn Hansell, BMSC Vice Chair


Arlynn Hansell has been a Physical Therapist in both the home health and SNF settings since October 1998, holding positions of therapist, rehab manager, and quality/compliance assurance. Arlynn is the Owner of Therapy and More, LLC, an outsource company for OASIS auditing, ICD-10 coding for home health and hospice, therapy visit note audits, and end of episode quality reviews.

Arlynn is appointed to the BMSC Home Health Advisory Panel, where she serves as Vice Chair. She is involved continuously in updating and creating online and live education for OASIS and coding. Arlynn is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1995, where she served as the past Vice President of the Home Health Section.

Jean Bird, BMSC Secretary

HCS-D, COS-C, AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM Trainer

Jean graduated with her nursing degree in 1982 and has worked in home health since 1994 as a field nurse, Case manager, and Clinical supervisor. She transitioned to her coding career in 2000 with the advent of PPS. She has been HCS-D credentialed since 2004, is an AHIMA Approved ICD-10 trainer, and is COS-C certified. She also contributes to Diagnosis Coding Pro by answering the ‘Ask the Expert’ questions each month. Jean is currently employed by Kindred at Home as a Utilization Review Supervisor. She manages and educates a team of 25 coders who work in the South Atlantic region.

Vonnie Blevins

Coding and Billing Manager, Excellence Healthcare

Vonnie Blevins, HCS-D, is the coding and billing manager for Excellence Healthcare in Houston, Texas. She also teaches coding, has been the primary technical editor on several coding books and is a well-known moderator on DecisionHealth’s diagnosis coding listserv.

Robert Markette, Jr., JD

focuses his practice on representing home health, hospice and private duty providers in all aspects of their operations. With more than 10 years of experience in working with these industries, Robert has developed a reputation for understanding the issues facing home care providers and has assisted clients in a number of areas related to the operation of their businesses.

He works with clients on issues related to Medicare and Medicaid compliance, including surveys, responding to surveys and state and federal appeals of survey findings; payer issues, including appealing payer audit findings; HIPAA compliance; and Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse, including matters such as developing and implementing compliance programs, performing internal investigations and representing providers in external investigations and civil and criminal matters. Robert also assists clients with purchasing and selling home health, hospice and private duty agencies.

Because these providers depend heavily on their staffs, Robert also addresses legal issues related to employment matters. This includes wage and hour compliance, responding to Department of Labor investigations and litigating wage and hour disputes. Robert routinely provides guidance to his clients on HR matters, including assisting with preparing personnel manuals, guidance on discipline issues and similar matters. He also assists clients in responding to EEOC investigations and discrimination lawsuits and similar employment issues.

Robert is certified in health care compliance by the Health Care Compliance Board. He is also a frequent speaker on home health, hospice and private duty matters across the country, presenting to the American Health Lawyers Association and the National Association for Home Health and Hospice Care, as well as other national speaking events and numerous state trade association conferences and continuing education sessions.

Therese Rode


Therese has worked for over 25 years as a HIM/Coding professional in two major home health agencies in Chicago and Northern Virginia and acute care. Her experience includes management, team facilitation, quality assurance, coding, chart review and chart auditing. She was involved with HIPAA implementation planning for the agency; served as a member of the Health System ICD-10 Conversion team and training and mentoring coders.

Therese regularly attends CMS/CDC ICD-9/10- CM Coordination and Maintenance Committee semi-annual meetings. She also participates as a team member of the Home Health National Coding Educators monthly meeting, which seeks to ensure coding compliance in the home health industry.

She has authored and edited chapters for text books related to home health information management and coding and OASIS and has spoken on regulatory requirements, coding functions and other issues pertaining to home health.

Lynn Speckels


Lynn has worked in a variety of positions in home health for 23 plus years. She is the owner of Medical Coding Answers, LLC providing home care and hospice coding and consulting services. She works as an Administrator/Director for Hendrick HouseCalls, a hospital based home health agency.

She provides in-services/education related to ICD-10 coding, OASIS, finance and billing, and rules and regulations for home care industry clients since 2006. She services on the Medicare/Medicaid, Education, and Annual Planning Committees for Texas Association of Home Care.

Megan Batty has worked for DecisionHealth since 2008 as a graduate fellow, editor and junior product manager. She has covered multiple aspects of home health care for Home Health Line, OASIS-C & Outcomes Solutions and Private Duty Insider, but has spent the majority of her time writing about home health diagnosis coding as the executive editor of Diagnosis Coding Pro for Home Health. She’s worked on many of DecisionHealth’s industry-leading coding products, including the Complete Home Health Coding Manual, the Coding & OASIS Field Guide, the Home Health Coding Companion and Documentation Trainer, and she was the developer of the new Wound Coding & OASIS Field Guide.
