The FY2021 changes to the ICD-10-CM code set included a new Alpha Index entry for Pancreatitis > recurrent > acute that points to code K85.50. However, K85.50 doesn't exist in the Tabular portion of the code set.
The FY2022 code changes, which take effect on October 1, 2021, address the mistake. In the Alpha Index Addenda for the coming code year, Pancreatitis > recurrent > acute points instead to a new “See” instruction for “Pancreatitis, acute by type.”
To work around the missing code until then, add the type (e.g., biliary, idiopathic) to your acute pancreatitis query for the most direct route to your code.
